1. Rabbit Creek House Marker
Inscription. Built 1852 by Eli S. Lester, the first building in town included a hotel, trading post and two barns.
 
Erected 1996 by E Clampus Vitus, Frank C. Reilly Chapter No. 5978. (Marker Number 213.)

La Porte, first known as Rabbit Creek, was one of the most important settlements in the southern part of Plumas County. In the fall of 1852, Eli S. Lester built the Rabbit Creek Hotel, the first house in town.
