1. Mackeys Ferry Marker
Inscription. Established by permission of King George II. Operated for 203 yrs. making 8 mile trips from Mackeys to Edenton. The largest vessel to operate was the John W. Garrett, a twin side wheel steamer 351 ft. x 41 ft. It carried railroad passengers, freight cars and had an on board restaurant. Was in operation from 1870-1910. Southern Terminus 1500 ft. E.
 
Erected 1999 by Washington Co. Bicentennial Commission.
 
Location. 35° 55.858′ N, 76° 36.906′ W. Marker is in Mackeys, North Carolina, in Washington County. Marker is at the intersection of Mackeys Road (State Highway 308) and Mackeys Ferry Road, on the right when traveling east on Mackeys Road. Touch for map.
