Carlin's brigade ascended Lookout at dusk Nov. 24th and relieved the right of General Hooker's line under the palisades east of the Craven's house. During the morning of the 25th it descended Lookout Mountain, recrossed Chattanooga Creek and rejoined its division soon after noon, forming its right. The 1st and 2nd brigades of the division formed the right of the assaulting column of the Army of the Cumberland on the afternoon of November 25th against Missionary Ridge. The two brigades moved to the assault simultaneously with the three divisions of Sheridan, Wood and Baird on the left. They carried the earthworks at the foot of the ridge and steadily fought their way up to the summit, the center reaching the crest about this point. The 3rd brigade remained in the entrenchments about Chattanooga.

Marker is on South Crest Road north of South Crest Drives, on the right when traveling south. This marker is located on the western side of the roadway, some distance south of the Bragg Reservation, on South Crest Road between the intersections of East View Drive and South Crest Drive. More about this marker. This Johnson's Division marker (MT-90A) apparently replaced an earlier Johnson's Division marker (MT-90) that was located at this same spot.
Regarding Johnson's Division. While there are additional NPS tablets for both Carlin's Brigade and Stoughton's Brigade that explain their role in the Chattanooga Campaign, there is not one for Starkweather's Brigade. In explanation of this, the NPS staff state the following:
"There is not a tablet for Starkweather's Brigade. When the Army of the Cumberland troops moved out of the line of Chattanooga fortifications on November 23 & 24 that brigade was assigned to man that line of works and was hence not engaged."
