1. British Campsite Marker

This is one of two identical Historical Markers, both located on the old King's Highway, in present day Atlantic Highlands and Middetown, NJ.

Inscription. For a week following the Battle of Monmouth, the main British Army under Gen. Sir Henry Clinton spread its encampment both sides of this road while awaiting transport from Sandy Hook. They embarked for New York July 5, 1778.

Erected 1976 by Middletown Township Lions Club.
