1. Yreka Gas Works Marker - south face
Inscription. Site of the Yreka Gas Works which on Dec. 17, 1859 first lighted Yreka Streets. The gas was made by burning pine pitch.
 
Location. 41° 43.978′ N, 122° 38.106′ W. Marker is in Yreka, California, in Siskiyou County. Marker is on North Main Street north of North Street, on the right when traveling north. Touch for map. Marker is in this post office area: Yreka CA 96097, United States of America.

of A. Pierce, D.E. Knight, and C.E. Burrows. Works were at once constructed where they still remain, and on Saturday, the seventeenth of December 1859, the streets of Yreka were illuminated with gas."
