Inscription. Built by James Stokes in the early 1840ís. Scene of many dramatic incidents in the late Mexican and early American periods

Location. 36° 35.81′ N, 121° 53.777′ W. Marker is in Monterey, California, in Monterey County. Marker is on Hartnell Street just south of Polk Street, on the right when traveling south.
