(There are two markers mounted on the monument.)
Upper Marker:

Built in 1873, it is the oldest structure in Gonzales. It became a saloon in 1890 and has never strayed from such an honorable enterprise since that time.

Lower Marker:
It was right behind you.
Close your eyes and imagine sounds
From the past, swinging doors, the
Clink of glasses, a toast to someone.
Gone, But Not Forgotten
