1. Stone Fences Marker
Inscription.

The 1867 law abolishing the open range provided for payment of 40 cents per rod (16½ ft.) to landowners to build and maintain a 4½ ft. stone fence. Stone was plentiful and our pioneers built miles of fences.
 
Erected 1978 by Wabaunsee County Historical Society.
 
Location. 38° 54.44′ N, 96° 16.796′ W. Marker is near Alma, Kansas, in Wabaunsee County. Marker is on State Highway 99 north of Soloscheid Road, on the right when traveling south. Touch for map. Marker is in this post office area: Alma KS 66401, United States of America.
