Medal of Honor
The Medal is the highest military decoration awarded by the United States government. It is bestowed by the United States Congress on members of the United States Armed Forces who distinguish themselves through “conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his or her life above and beyond the call of duty while engaged in an action against any enemy of the United States, while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict against an opposing armed force in which the United States is not a belligerent party.”

This memorial pays tribute to Medal of Honor recipients who were either born in or whose award was accredited to the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations.
