Location. 42° 22.506′ N, 76° 52.418′ W. Marker is in Watkins Glen, New York, in Schuyler County. Marker can be reached from N. Franklin Street (New York State Route 414). Touch for map. 2. Watkins Glen State Park Marker
The stairs and pathway to the right lead park visitors into the cave-line entrance and on to the scenic wonders of Watkins Glen.
from Elmira to purchase the Watkins Glen Republican in 1856. Ells received permission to open Watkins Glen to the public, officially opening on July 4, 1863, in the midst of the Civil War. In 1906 the State of New York purchased Watkins Glen for $46,512 as a state reservation, later making it a state park.
