A native of Jackson,
Amador County
Born July 30 1854
Died November 17 1923
District Attorney, State Senator, United States Congressman, United State Commissioner General of Immigration, The first native Californian to be elected to Congress, author of bills creating California Debris Commission, Preston School of Industry at Ione, California Junior Colleges, Father of Alpine State Highway, A loyal American and a faithful public official.
A charter member of the Native Sons of the Golden West.
 
Erected 1938 by Citizens of Amador County.
 
Location. 38° 21.897′ N, 120° 47.231′ W. Marker is in Jackson, California, in Amador County. Marker is on State Highway 49 (California Route 49), on the right when traveling south. Touch for map.
