1. El Rito Marker
Inscription. This village was settled in the 1830s by residents from the Abiquiú area. The Territorial Legislature of 1909 established the Spanish-American Normal School here to train teachers for northern New Mexico schools. After several changes in name and purpose, the institution is now the Northern New Mexico Community College.
 
Location. 36° 20.173′ N, 106° 11.388′ W. Marker is in El Rito, New Mexico, in Rio Arriba County. Marker is on State Road 554 at milepost 11.5 north of State Road 571. Touch for map. It is at the entrance gate of the Northern New Mexico Community College. Marker is in this post office area: El Rito NM 87530, United States of America.
