Inscription. Built 1895. Purchased 1909 by Dr. King's maternal grandfather, Dr. A. D. Williams. Birthplace of Dr. King 1929. Acquired with assistance of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority 1974. Designated as part of the National Historic Site 1980. Dedicated as part of Freedom Hall Complex 1982. Renovated with the assistance of the Johnson's Wax Fund, Inc. 1983.
