2. Michigan City World War I Memorial
South Face of Memorial
The Service Star Legion unveiled the monument on November 11, 1926, Armistice Day. The monument is 22 feet tall and is made of North Pearl granite with a base of Bedford marble. Sealed within the base of the monument is a copper-lined box with parchment written in waterproof ink. The parchment contains the names of the servicemen who died in the war, the names of Michigan City's Gold Star Mothers and War Mothers of the Service Star Legion, and a history of the monument.
