1. Olde Greene County Gaol Marker
Inscription. A jail commissioned by the Greene County Court has been on this site since 1806. The present structure was built by Turner and Lane in 1882 using limestone and wrought iron from the previous jail built with slaves' labor. This followed the original log jail, replete with stocks dating from 1794.
 
Erected by Tennessee Historical Commission. (Marker Number 1C 68.)
 
Location. 36° 9.756′ N, 82° 49.83′ W. Marker is in Greeneville, Tennessee, in Greene County. Marker is on E. Depot Street 0.1 miles east of S. Main St. E. Depot St., on the right when traveling east. Touch for map. After turning onto E. Depot St from S. Main St., take first R onto Courthouse Alley. Marker will be directly in front of you, under a tree. Marker is in this post office area: Greeneville TN 37743, United States of America.
