Inscription. On Sept. 18, 1897, The Sundance Kid (Harry Longbaugh), Kid Curry and others of the "Wild Bunch" rode into Red Lodge after escaping from jail in Belle Fourche, S.D., and announced their intention of making an unauthorized withdrawal from the Carbon County Bank. They botched the job and Sheriff John Dunn rode off in hot pursuit. After an 80-mile chase, he an his posse captured them near Lavina. The robbers were returned to the Deadwood, S.D. jail, where they again escaped.

Additional comments.
1. Sheriff John Boggs Dunn
John Dunn is my great, great grandfather. It was interesting to come across a photo of this marker in my search for info on him. I grew up in Montana & remember summer trips to Red Lodge as a child.

2. Bank Robbery
This is in reply to Sheriff Duns great grandson. Have you seen the photo of Sheriff Dun walking three prisoners down the street to the train station? This photo was taken in Lavina, Mt.

It shows Kid Curry, Sundance Kid & Walt Punteney. Kid Curry was my cousin. I am doing research about my family on the Logan side.

3. Sheriff John Dunn
I knew John Raymond Lindquist who is the grandson of John Dunn. When Ray died he left me John Dunn's personal pistol, a 25 caliber Iver Bicycle Works revolver. Thinking it should go to a family member.... Note To Editor only visible by Contributor and editor

4. Sheriff John Dunn
Jim of Clearwater FL - I am the great great grand daughter of John Boggs Dunn and just came across your comment mentioning Sheriff Dunn's personal revolver. I would like more information but am unsure of how we can connect. I sent you a message on the firearmsforum that you posted on about this years ago.
