1. Rosencrans Avenue Marker
Inscription. Rosencrans, born in Delaware County, Ohio, graduated from West Point in 1842 and joined the engineers. He resigned from the U.S. Army in 1845 and became an architect and civil engineer. He commanded the Army of the Cumberland, which was defeated at Chickamauga, and was replaced by US Grant in October 1863. After the war he was a rancher, served as US Minister to Mexico 1868-69, and was US Congressman from California 1881-85.

Marker is at the intersection of Gordon Street and Rosencrans Avenue (unopened), on the right when traveling west on Gordon Street. This marker is located near the eastern edge of the downtown business district, very near a significant railway crossing. More about this marker. I realize that the name of General Rosecrans is spelled incorrectly on the marker (and I confess, that it is the spelled the way that I am inclined to spell his name), but I left it the way that it was spelled on the marker intentionally.
