1. Military Road Marker
Inscription. Built by War Department 1817-20, to connect New Orleans with Nashville. Suggested by & named for Gen. Andrew Jackson. Soon became an important commercial & telegraph route.
 
Erected 1952 by Mississippi Historical Commission.

Location. 33° 30.41′ N, 88° 25.195′ W. Marker is in Columbus, Mississippi, in Lowndes County. Marker is at the intersection of Military Road (State Highway 12) and 11th Avenue North, on the right when traveling south on Military Road. Touch for map.
