More about this marker. This Memorial is the second one placed in Château-Thierry for the 3rd Division. The first Memorial Monument was placed at the north end of the Marne River Bridge. In 1940, the original monument was destroyed when the French Army blew up the bridge to prevent the Germans from using it in the early days of World War II. The new monument commemorates the division's role in both wars.
