1. Dwinnell Dam Marker
Inscription. A dream of Dr. G.W. Dwindle and others was realized when this dam was completed in 1927. The water surface is 1,800 acres, the length of the shoreline is over 15 miles, the maximum depth is 80 feet. 11,000 acres of farm land are irrigated from this dam.
 
Erected 1973 by Siskiyou County Historical Society.
 
Location. 41° 32.727′ N, 122° 22.454′ W. Marker is near Grenada, California, in Siskiyou County. Marker is on Big Springs Road (County Route A-12 E) near Lake Shore Drive, on the right when traveling south. Touch for map. first pioneers began to settle in the Shasta Valley, the land was dry and scorched; water was scarce and farming was difficult. It wasn't until the young Dr. Dwinnell arrived from Chicago in 1891 that water was to become more easily available.
