1. Boot Hill Cemetery Marker
Inscription. Crime was rampant in Pioche in the early 1870's. During the first few years of Pioche's boom days it was said that 72 men "were buried with their boots on" before anyone died of natural causes. Many of these men are buried in this old Boot Hill Cemetery.
 
Location. 37° 56.054′ N, 114° 26.84′ W. Marker is in Pioche, Nevada, in Lincoln County. Marker is on Comstock Road near Nevada Route 322, on the left when traveling east. Touch for map. When driving through Pioche on 322, turn east on Comstock and drive about 0.1 miles to where it turns into a gravel road, and then keep driving another 400 feet or so to the entrance of the cemetery. Marker is in this post office area: Pioche NV 89043, United States of America.

Andrew Whitlock was killed by Jas. Maxwell, at Meadow Valley Mill, Lincoln County. The former was an important witness in a lawsuit over the title to a ranch, and Maxwell took this way to keep him from testifying, and then escaped over the line into Utah. -- Ghost Town Seekers

John Bass was killed by officers McKee and Kelley, at Pioche, Lincoln County. He opened fire on the officers, firing five shots. They had to kill him to take him. -- Ghost Town Seekers
