Regarding Original Springfield Cotton Mill. This mill gave rise to the local village called Springfield. Many generations of Scotland County residents have called the Springfield and adjacent Bayfield home. These folks are a close knit group that work, play, and worship together. Recent changes in trade legislation and the economy have caused some drastic changes in the area. Across from this sign is the site of a former Springs Mills textile plant that is undergoing demolition. With the plant closed, many in the area are out of work.
