Born in Washington, D.C., Fay lived her whole life on Kendall Green. In 1907, she taught at Kendall School for 39 years. From 1929 until her retirement in 1946, she served as supervising teacher at Kendall School and as an instructor in Gallaudet's Normal Department where she trained teachers of deaf children.
