1. The Great Western Trail Marker
Inscription.
The largest, longest, and lasting the most years, is often
called by its Hollywood famous cousin's name, the Chishom Trail.
The two trails ran parallel to each other approximately 90 miles
apart. The Chisholm Trail did not run through the Vernon area.

Seven million head of cattle and horses went
up the Great Western Trail from 1874 to 1893,
with the major years being 1874 – 1886.

 
Location. 34° 9.495′ N, 99° 19.237′ W. Marker is in Vernon, Texas, in Wilbarger County. Marker can be reached from the intersection of College Drive and Hospital Drive. Touch for map.
