Commissioned 17 May 1944

On 23 August 1944 the U.S.S. Hawkbill left Pearl Harbor to begin her first patrol. She sank a destroyer during her second patrol, and on her third patrol sank 2 submarine chasers and a cargo vessel. The Hawkbill completed 5 patrols during which she was credited with sinking 5 vessels totalling 7,856 tons. She earned the [Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign Medal and the] Navy Unit Commendation during these patrols. On 21 April 1953 the Hawkbill was transferred to the Netherlands where she served under the name, Zeeleuw.
