The following text is taken from the Presbyterian Historical Society website:
First Presbyterian Church of Lawrenceville was first established by settlers who came from Long Island and Connecticut in the late 17th Century. Land was opened for settlement in the 1690s and in 1689, a plot in the town formerly called Maindenhead was granted to settlers for the purposes of building a cemetery, school house, and church. The Presbyterian settlers exchanged this land for the present day site in 1710. John Hart, signer of the Declaration of Independence, was baptized here in 1713. The current colonial style brick church was erected in 1764 and was enlarged twice during the 19th century. The chapel was constructed in 1898 and now houses staff offices, nursery school, and community groups.
