1. Butterfield Overland Mail in Missouri — 1858-1861 Marker
Inscription. The John I. Smith Relay Station was 172 ½ miles from the Tipton Terminus and stood in northeast Barry County, about 7 miles west of Crane.
 
Erected 1958 by State Historical Society of Missouri.

Regarding Butterfield Overland Mail in Missouri — 1858-1861. The site of the Smith Relay Station is located three miles northeast of the marker. Farm Road 2035 adjacent to the marker follows the route of the Butterfield Overland Mail stage line.
