Inscription. "Made a drive of 20 miles and campt by what are called Sheep Rock Springs, at the head of Shasta River Valley and about 30 miles from our destination, Yreka City." - James S, Cowden, Oct 10, 1853

Location. 41° 34.716′ N, 122° 14.62′ W. Marker is near Weed, California, in Siskiyou County. Marker is on Pilar Road, on the left when traveling south. Marker is located where the name of the road changes from Pilar Road to Perla Drive.

Important Note: If you visit this marker, please adhere to the following street directions to prevent yourself from getting onto the wrong one-way roads: From County Rd A12 (99-97 Cutoff), Turn right onto Perla Dr., then a quick left onto Richards Rd. Then take a right onto Tiger Trail Dr. and then another right onto Karina Dr. which eventually merges into Perla Dr. and to marker location. To return to County Rd A12, take Perla Dr. southeast all the way back to the county
