1. Lafayette Square Marker
Inscription. When President John F. Kennedy took office in 1961, the historic residences surrounding Lafayette Square were facing near-certain demolition for new office buildings. It was through the vision and dedicated efforts of First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy that the historic character of Lafayette Square was preserved, while allowing for compatible new construction. The view of President's Neighborhood from Decatur House is dedicated in her memory.
 
Erected 2022 by National Trust for Historic Preservation.
