On March 14, 1994, while flying enroute to Mogadishu, Somalia, in support of Operation Continue Hope, eight fellow Spectres lost their lives. Let peace be with them.

In 1994, the 16th Special Operations Squadron had been deployed to Africa in support of Operation Continue Hope, the United Nations relief effort in Somalia. During this deployment, this AC-130H gunship was destroyed due to an in-borne detonation of the 105mm gun while airborne, which caused the aircraft to crash land in the Indian Ocean, roughly 200 yards off the coast of Somalia, accidentally killing eight of the 14 aircrew members.

In 2009, the 16th Special Operations Squadron moved from Hurlburt Field to Cannon Air Force Base, New Mexico.
