The Hal Parker Post #79
American Legion and all Veterans

The Hal Parker American Legion Post #79 was named after Harold Malloy Parker who was the first Soldier from Cando, ND killed in action during World War I. When Hal's body arrived home there was some doubt the body was Hal's. Hal had died from an artillery blast.

One evening at a local saloon, a few comrades demanded the casket be opened. The first item they saw was a corn cob pipe. Knowing that Hal always had his corn cob pipe, they declared it has to be Hal and the casket was closed for eternity.
