Inscription.
Welcome
You are about to enter the area where General Ulysses S. Grant had his headquarters throughout the final nine months of the American Civil War. You will also be walking on the same grounds as President Abraham Lincoln when he visited City Point for two weeks, from late March through early April of 1865. The supply base located here during the Siege of Petersburg (June, 1864-April, 1865) enabled an average of 120,000 Union soldiers to maintain their efforts to wear down General Lee's Army of Northern Virginia and gain control of Richmond's main supply base: Petersburg.

Continue straight ahead to the Visitor Contact Station for a 15 minute video and free tour of the Eppes family home, Appomattox Plantation. Not only will you be able to learn more about the military events which occurred here, but also learn about how the Civil War affected the people who lived here, both free and enslaved.
