Regarding Coal Miners' Memorial. This is a life-size monument of a coal car and miners, cast in bronze by local artist Ben Johnson. The some 1,500 active, past, retired and deceased member's names of the coal mining industry, from 24 states, are inscribed on the base of the monument. Replicas of the memorial and inscriptions in the black granite base of the monument, provide money for support of education through scholarships, as well as maintenance of the memorial.
