In honor of William Henry Harrison of Massachusetts who lost his life on the Oregon Trail about 1850.
Erected by his niece Mrs. Alura F. Beardsley, 1931

One mile south-west near the river precipice is a monument on the site of the massacre of 1860 of sixteen men, women and children.

Regarding William Henry Harrison. Near the base of Sheep Rock ... is the locally famous William Henry Harrison monument , erected in 1931 by his niece to commemorate his death of the Oregon Trail in 1950. There is no further documentation concerning Harrison's death or its significance to the Oregon Trail. The monument also makes a reference to the "massacre" of 16 men, women, and children in 1860, about one mile to the southwest. In that vicinity ... a local rancher was able to point out an iron stake driven into the ground, which local legend clains as a marker of the burial site of those victims. This massacre is even less documented than the Wagonbox Burial, so no historian has ever been able to find a reference to it.
