1. Waiulu Kīpuka Marker

Inscription. Despite the naturally arid conditions of the surrounding landscape, there a few sources of drinkable water within this part of coastal Kekaha. One of these is located a short distance inland from this location. It is known as Waiulu, which is interpreted to mean rising waters, and refers to the pools of water that seemingly rise from the pāhoehoe lava that is beneath a more recent 'a'ā flow covering Kumukea/Kumukēhu Point. Waiulu was no doubt an important cultural and spiritual location in ancient times, and is today considered a wahi pana, a celebrated or legendary place.
