1. Corinthian Capital Marker
Inscription.
Corinthian Capital Circa 2nd-3rd century AD. This capital, the top of a column, is from Jerusalem. Capitals of this type can be seen in Roman buildings constructed during the time of the Roman occupation of the Holy Land. Good examples can still be found in Jerash, Jordan, Baalbeck, Lebanon, and in various locations in Israel. Ms. Sharon V. Hurley, Louisville, KY., who was in the diplomatic corps of the U.S. and served in Israel, made the generous donation of this exquisite piece knowing that it would be appreciated and cared for in the confines of the Holy Land of America. Ms. Hursley was a friend of Fr. Godfrey Kloetzli, O.F.M. (1916-1992), an avid pilgrimage guide both in Washington and in the Holy Land.

"Remember thou art a guest in every land-he that treateth his host with respect shall be treated as an honored guest."
Number ten from "Ten By-Laws for Travelers", by Fr. Godfrey, O.F.M.
