United We Stand
In the hours, days and months following the events of Sept. 11, 2001, members of our local community joined in the rescue and recovery efforts in NYC.
The Troy Police and Fire Departments were among the first law enforcement responders to report to NYC.
Members of the 42nd Infantry Division "Rainbow" led much of the military support to the relief and recovery efforts.
Along with the TPD, TFD, and 42nd, hundreds of volunteers from across Rensselaer County were part of the relief team for the duration of the effort at the World Trade Center.
Many men and women of the City of Troy and Rensselaer County answered the call to duty and were deployed on combat tours Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom in the Middle East as part of the Global War on Terror[ism]. Their bravery, sense of duty, and ultimate sacrifice will forever be etched into the minds of members of their communities.
Our freedoms were attacked, structures demolished, lives were lost, but the American Spirit prevailed. Americans united and strengthened on the memory of the innocent lives lost and from the countless tales of heroism of our uniformed men and women and by those ordinary citizens who answered the call of a fellow citizen in need.
