This particular ‘Tallboy’ was displayed for some years in a recreational park in Heathfield, East Sussex, before passing into private ownership. It was donated to Brooklands Museum in 1999.

Damage caused to the E Boat pens at Boulogne (main) and damage to the rail tunnel at Saumer (above). Tallboy bombs were used in both raids.

Regarding Tallboy Bomb. The Tallboy bomb could only be carried by the Avro Lancaster heavy bomber. The fins were given a slight twist so that the bomb spun as it fell. It was dropped from an altitude of 18,000 ft (5,500 m), reaching 750 mph (1,210 km/h). It made a crater 80 ft (24 m) deep and 100 ft (30 m) across and could go through 16 ft (4.9 m) of concrete.
