A Unique Dinner Bell
Each day at noon and again in the evening as workers departed the quarry, they set off black powder or dynamite placed into holes in the rock. When they returned, workers could dig out the stone loosened by the blast. Local farmers claimed that the noon blast at the quarry became a signal which told them when to go home for lunch.
