The Celaya's Diocese headed by Bishop Victorino Alvarez Tena, resolved on October 19th, 1976 to give another patroness to the parish: Nuestra Señora de la Asunción.

The parish has a floor plan of a Latin cross, the facade made of quarry material stands out contrasting with the body of the church. The tower is Gothic, and although hearsay specifies that the style of the porch imitates the Greco-Roman style, if you look closely, the characteristics of its arches, the front door and the window of the choir have more elements resembling the Gothic style.

The main altar is Neoclassical with the image of the Virgin of the Assumption, its spacious dome has 16 windows giving light to the church, like the window of the upper part of the walls that make up the main aisle.

At the interior walls there are five important paintings by Pedro Ramírez that represent key moments in the life of Jesus Christ, in chronological order they are: "The Annunciation", "The Visit of Mary to her cousin Isabel", "The Nativity", "The Presentation of Jesus at the temple" and "Jesus among the Doctors"

In Dolores Hidalgo, feasts in honor of the Virgin are celebrated on August 15 of each year.
