Inscription. This is the site of the Hobson Bros. Packing Company, established in the 1870's as Ventura's first slaughterhouse. The business provided sausage and cut meat for delivery to most parts of the County. The present structure was built in 1923 and functioned as a slaughterhouse until 1936. The building survived the 1943 fire, which was considered the worst structural fire in Ventura's history.
