1. Lopez Station Marker
Inscription.  Near this site of the Los Angeles Dam and reservoir were located a Butterfield Stage station, 1861 - 1874; San Fernando Valley’s first English-speaking school, 1860 - 1883; and its first post office, 1869 - 1874.
Erected 1978 by Native Daughters of the Golden West.

2. Lopez Station Marker

More about this marker. The marker is located outside the gate of the Van Norman Reservoir Complex. Lopez Station was demolished during construction of the reservoir.
Regarding Lopez Station. Geronimo and Catalina Lopez built an adobe home in 1861 along the wagon route that connected Los Angeles and San Francisco. The couple operated a stage station, general store, school, and post office at this site.

In 1882 they built a larger adobe two miles east of here, in the city of San Fernando. Lopez Adobe is open for tours on the fourth Sunday of each month from 1-4.
