Inscription.
Built for a grocer a few years after nearby Schermerhorn Row, No. 203 was – with its neighbor No. 204 – extensively remodeled in the 1880s to become a waterfront hotel, one of the many scattered throughout the district that catered to unmarried men who labored here.
The building has been restored to its 1880s appearance, including the heavily modeled storefront doors, running-bond Philadelphia brick façade, pressed metal cornice, and incised iron window lintels.
