Founded in 1905, Rotary International is headquartered in Evanston, Illinois and is the world’s oldest service organization. This plaque is erected on the occasion of the 92nd Annual Convention in which more than 20,000 Rotarians from over 120 countries of the world convened in San Antonio.

This plaque further commemorates a service project made possible by the financial participation of the H.E. Butt Grocery Company, The Home Depot, The San Antonio Parks Foundation and Rotary International. As a result of their generous donations amounting to $50,000, the newly completed $200 million expansion of the Convention Center was completed with the planting by 800 Rotarians in HemisFair Park extending from the Tower of the Americas to Alamo Street.

Rotarians accomplished all of the planting on this date in a physical reaffirmation of the motto of Rotary International;

”Service above Self”

Frank Devlyn, President, Rotary International
Sonny Brown, Convention Chairman
Jim Berg, Chairman, San Antonio Host Committee

Erected 2001 by H.E.B., The Home Depot, The San Antonio Parks Foundation, and Rotary International.
