The Proceedings of the 43rd Annual Meeting of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, held at Austin, Texas on March 15-17, 1934, noted that: "We are extremely pleased to report that the marker to our ancestor, Reuben Hornsby, was unveiled in Hornsby Bend on August 20, 1933, exactly one hundred years after Reuben Hornsby and his family settled in what is now known as Hornsby Bend. The unveiling was preceded by a program."
