Neosho in Newton County, Missouri — The American Midwest (Upper Plains)
Haas Warehouse Building
In 1898, Edward Haas built this four story warehouse to house his wholesale grocery. The warehouse has an electric belt driven elevator and automatic sprinkler system. His business was the center for the entire region for canning and shipping. The Victorian Romanesque Style, the granite columns, and the distinctive mix of stone and brick truly make the building remarkable. The main interior supports are of massive cypress beams and have been left visible after the renovation. The grocery was liquidated in the early 1940’s and used for a brief time by the Corp[s of] Engineers before they opened Camp Crowder. In 1942 Phil Ratliff opened a feed service. This business operated until 1995.
National Register of Historic Places – 1993
Vaughn X. Prost, developer and builder, purchased the property in 2001 with a vision to restore the historic warehouse into class “A” office space. Prost Builders of Jefferson City, Missouri, the design builder, completed the historic restoration and renovation in 2003.
Erected 2003 by Vaughn X. Prost.
