The Soldiers lived a fairly easy and complacent life while the officers could look forward to having their official duties accomplished by noon time.
During the 1930s, Fort Adams even boasted a hostess, Mrs. Crawford “Maudie” Allen, who arranged social events such as movie nights, weekly dances for the enlisted men, and holiday parties.
