1. Spiral Staircases Marker
Inscription. The spiral staircases of Weaverville have always been a predominant part of this community’s architecture. The structures became a necessity because of the separate ownership of the upper and lower floors.

This stairway, the first of these landmarks, was built in the summer of 1860 by Ira Howe, the owner of the upper floor, shortly after completion. Howe sold is interest to the present owners, North Star Lodge No. 61 IOOF.

The lower floor of this building, erected by John Cole in 1858, has always been a grocery store.
[Note: The grocery store closed in 1980]

Erected 1974 by E Clampus Vitus, Trinitarianus Chapter 62.
