Inscription.
Tolchester Bandstand. Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. On this Victorian bandstand, musicians played for holiday visitors at Tolchester Beach, in Kent County. In the mid 1800s people from Baltimore and other Mid-Atlantic cities traveled to Tolchester Beach and other Eastern Shore destinations on steamboats to relax and have a good time.
Like many amusement parks today, Tolchester Beach offered plenty of activities---swimming, a penny arcade, shooting gallery, many rides including a miniature train and the Whirlpool Dips roller coaster, and of course dancing to the music of the bands.
