Inscription. This pier, home of the museum’s fleet of historic ships since 1963, was built in 1922 as the terminal of the Golden Gate Ferry Company service to Sausalito. Additions were completed in 1931 and 1932.

Service to Berkeley was added by Golden Gate in 1927, and in 1929 the company was taken over by Southern Pacific. The ferryboat Eureka docked here during the 1930s as Sausalito relief boat.

The use of Hyde Street Pier as a public terminal ended in 1938, fourteen months after the opening of the Golden Gate Bridge.
